I’m Glad My Mom Died by
Jennette McCurdy
My rating:
5 of 5 stars
i really loved this book. it was relatable in ways i didn’t fully expect, and i found myself nodding along to so many of jennette’s thoughts. her dry humor shines through the whole memoir and manages to make the darkest and most painful experiences feel readable without losing the weight of what she’s sharing.
her writing never feels forced, just very real and honest. the book is sharp, funny, and emotional, which kept me hooked the whole time. i was drawn not only to her reflections on the pressures of childhood fame, but also to how openly she writes about her mother's abuse, self image, and food. jennette's recovery felt both raw and inspiring due to the honesty about her journey being non-linear. so is the breaking point: not being able to picture herself as a woman with a mortgage and a family while still battling an eating disorder. there’s so much truth in that.
it’s one of those memoirs that makes you laugh, makes you think, and then lingers with you long after you’ve finished. definitely a 5/5.
